I have a new mini-series about music and chakras coming soon! I’m really excited about this because I get to combine two of my loves: music and Reiki! I’ll be blogging on each chakra and how it relates to music.
Why are you doing this?
I’m actually a certified Reiki master and I’ve been studying the process for a long time. I mainly work on animals but I’ve been really interested in the connections between chakras and music for a while now. When I started my class for Deserve to Thrive, I briefly mentioned music and chakras and then said I would write a blog about it. Then I realized oh crap, I actually have to start this blog series now! Which is super exciting, but scary because now it’s real. So, here we go!
What if I’m not into the whole chakra/spiritual thing?
Totally cool, you don’t have to be! I won’t be doing this long-term or constantly. It’s going to be every other blog post for all 7 chakras, and maybe a recap or something. I’ll still do the regular music posts and everything else! If you do choose to read them and you’re not into it, I just ask that you keep an open mind, please!
If you want to know more about the history of Reiki, here’s a good resource: http://www.reiki.org/faq/historyofreiki.html
I’d also like to mention that the concept of chakras does not belong to any one religion. Some may use the idea more than others, but the concept can fit into whatever beliefs you currently have! Maybe reading my blogs or others will help you decide if it’s something you’d like to incorporate into your beliefs.
What does music have to do with Reiki?
It’s more about music and the chakras, so you don’t really need to do much with Reiki in this series. I’ll be going into detail about each chakra, what it is, and what music works to align/heal/balance each chakra. You can use it along with reiki or use it alone. There’s no one “right way” to align your chakras so this is just another bit of information if you want to use it!
What are Chakras?
The definition of “chakra” is “(in Indian thought) each of the centers of spiritual power in the human body, usually considered to be seven in number.” They are considered “wheels” inside and around your body that channel energy. If one of these wheels is stuck or spinning out of control, you may feel the effects in a negative way. These are not visible (though some say they can see them), rather they are sort of a mental aid of guiding you through your body’s energy flow. If you don’t want to view them spiritually, it may help to think of them as simply your energy level. If all the energy in your body is stuck in your chest, that’s going to be terrible, right? You might feel it physically or it might show up in other areas in your life. Keeping them balanced is one of many options to improve your health! In fact, there have been scientific studies on chakras and they have found that there is merit to the idea.
How did you get into this?
It’s a long story, but basically, I had Reiki done on me once and was instantly hooked. I never considered practicing it myself, however. It wasn’t until I started fostering animals constantly that I noticed a huge difference in my dogs. When a foster dog would find a home, they would go days without wanting to play or interact with me. The vet checked them out and everything was fine. I searched the problem and realized that I was bringing a lot of different energies into our home. Think about it – foster dogs are coming from abuse, neglect, and other scary situations. They bring that energy with them, and sometimes it doesn’t leave when they do. Sometimes my dogs pick it up and can’t let go of it. When I realized this, I looked for a teacher to show me how to perform Reiki on animals. I had to learn to do it on people as well, but I really only do it for friends and family.
So are you just some culturally appropriating moron trying to make money?
I hope not (about part one), and no (about part two). I don’t charge for performing Reiki, either on humans or animals, and the only thing I’m selling here is an upcoming workbook after the posts are done. But that’s because I’ve put over 40 hours into it so like, if you want to buy me an unsweetened iced tea fromMcDonald’ss (how good are those??) then cool. If not, you can have my free worksheets here. I really don’t want to appropriate anyone’s culture, but it’s a learning process as to what’s crossing the line, and where the line is. At the end of the day, I really believe in this and feel it’s the right path for me. If it turns out that I’m exploiting or abusing someone’s culture and beliefs, I will work to learn from it and grow. I found this to be a great resource about this topic here: http://weareallsacredbeings.com/blog/sensational-spirituality-and-new-age-culture-part-i
When is it happening?
I want to put work into the book and worksheets, but I’ll start releasing each blog soon. I’m excited! And again, if you don’t care about this I’ll still be doing my regular blog weekly so no need to leave. This is just a quick and fun mini-series designed to give you some information.
