New Release: Snowcone Remix

Snowcone Remix with Vocals

I am so nervous to share my Snowcone remix with you, but I want to show you the process!

I recently took the Deadmau5 MasterClass (you can see the first post here with a list of all further steps). Our assignment was to create our own remix of Snowcone, so I’m going to share it with you here!

At the bottom, I’ll post some links in case you want to take the MasterClass yourself. These are affiliate links, so I’ll make a small percentage if you take them through me! Thanks for allowing me to continue to make these reviews!

My Snowcone Remix

My first attempt was rough, to be honest. I wasn’t at all sure of what I wanted to do. Here is my video documenting the process:

As you can see, I was doubting every step of the process. I really couldn’t tell if I was doing well or not. In my mind, I kept thinking Deadmau5 would hear it and hate it. It’s not EDM. It’s more melancholic singer/songwriter, which is probably not something he would enjoy.

My Next Steps

I wrote a second verse to see if I would like it more or if I should trash it and start over. By this time I had worked on the song continually and it was starting to grow on me (or at least get stuck in my head, which is always a good sign).

I started playing around with musical elements, adding and removing some to flesh it out a little more. I became obsessed with it, thinking about it late at night and first thing in the morning. It really encouraged me to analyze each piece of a song and determine its function. Not all elements of a song are necessary, but some add flair and emotion.

My Lyrics

The lyrics are basically just how I’ve been feeling lately. I figured honesty is the best way to go, and that way I’ll have a personal connection with it. The melody is an old one I used a long time ago and modified it to fit the song.

Falling apart, I love the madness
Peeling away the morning sadness
Stumble down into the night
Nothing will ever be alright

Break it in half if you get lonely
Take both and call me in the morning

I don’t know where we went wrong
Happiness, it took too long
I forgot all of our songs
Happiness, it takes too long

Letting me down it comes so easy
Push you away before you leave me
Hurry now go, don’t look back
Don’t get entangled in my trap

Break it in half if you get lonely
Take both and call me in the morning

I don’t know where we went wrong
Happiness, it took too long
I forgot all of our songs
Happiness, it takes too long

My Video

And now, I present the song in its final form. I’m nervous about it still and I’m still not 100% sure it’s good, but it’s done and I’m relieved about that.

What I Learned from the Deadmau5 MasterClass

This class taught me a lot about EDM music. Granted, I didn’t know much about it to start, but I learned a great deal about how it’s made and how to grow and improve. I’m really glad I took it and would highly recommend it if you’re interested in learning more about EDM!

Here are my affiliate links if you want to take the class through me!

Here is the general link for MasterClass, so if you want to sign up for any class at all, you can still do it through me and I would appreciate it!

If you want to get the Deadmau5 MasterClass specifically, check it out here!

MasterClass is a great gift; I’ve given it to several people in my life. If you have someone who would like to take a class, you can buy it for them here!

If you plan on taking two or more classes per year, I recommend the All Access Pass. There are so many great classes and I plan on doing as many as I can! Check out the All Access Pass here!
