If you missed my post about why I’m writing about these, check that out here. Otherwise, let’s get started!
Our final chakra is actually known as the first chakra: the Root. You may be wondering, “why did you start at the 7th chakra?” and my answer is that I like going from top to bottom. It’s how I typically do scans in Reiki so it just made sense for me to do it this way. The Root Chakra is associated with the color red and is located around the base of your spine. This chakra deals with a sense of physical safety and our sense of belonging in the world.
The sounds associated with the Root Chakra
The Root Chakra correlates to the key of C, which kind of makes sense. C is sort of the “home base” key, and the Root is your home base chakra, so to speak. Here is the video for opening this chakra:
The sound for chanting for this chakra is “Lam” (pronounced Lahm, not Lamb). If you know your heritage (or at least some of it), I would recommend finding music from that area. This will boost your sense of belonging. If not, whatever you want is fine!
Rhoda Shapiro is my absolute favorite spiritual YouTuber, and she has a great video on opening your Root Chakra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wva2o_t4lzE Honestly all her videos are great, I highly recommend her!
How will I know if my Root Chakra isn’t aligned?
If you feel “out of place” within your group or band, you might have a Root Chakra issue. Of course, your band might actually be jerks to you so you’ll want to consider that as well. However, if you have a hard time finding your place within social circles in general, the Root Chakra is good to explore. You might also feel generally unsafe or uneasy all the time. This is not to be confused with generalized anxiety, which should be treated by a doctor. If you just feel out of sorts and can’t figure out why, the Root is a good place to explore.
How can I align it?
Generating a feeling of security is not easy, especially if your surroundings and circumstances aren’t secure. Still, you can do things to feel safer (carry protection of some sort, take a self-defense class) to boost your feelings of physical safety. If you feel out of place within your band or social circle, you can either try to talk to them or take a step back to evaluate the situation. Other tips you can try:
- Wear red (or even black works too)
- Light red or black candles
- Mediate with Root Chakra music
- Study songs in the key of C
What songs are good for the Root Chakra?
Gloria Gaynor, “I Will Survive” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tth-8wA3PdY
I sang this with a quartet in my high school talent show. Who knew years later I’d be writing about it to heal your Root Chakra? Not my choir teacher, that’s for sure.
Rascal Flatts, “Bless the Broken Road” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Do32g82qilk
I finally found a country song that would work with a chakra! I’m sure there are tons, I just had a hard time for this blog.
Sade, “Nothing Can Come Between Us” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oVI0GW-Xd4
I’m trying to find songs that talk about togetherness and such. Hopefully that makes sense.
Mariah Carey, “Anytime You Need a Friend” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li6vpAMmfw0
No joke, I was just listening to this song before I started writing this blog. This same thing happened with another one of the chakras so I’m trusting my instinct that someone needs to hear this.
So these were mostly R&B songs, but that might just be the kind of mood I’m in today. You can find your own here: http://www.songkeyfinder.com/songs-in-key/c-major?page=1
Another thing you may have noticed, now that we are finished with the chakra blog series, is that a lot of the chakras seem to have overlapping information. This makes sense since they are all inside of you and work within yourself. For example, if you have a hard time communicating how much you love someone, this would involve both the Throat and Heart. So you may see a lot of circumstances where your issues involve more than one chakra. That’s totally normal.
Did this series change your mind one way or another about chakras? Do you believe in them or think they’re total garbage? I’m interested in your opinions so please let me know!
I went into much greater detail in my book, which you can find here.
I also have free worksheets for each chakra which you can get right here.
Thank you so much for taking this chakra journey with me! I hope you had as much fun reading it as I did writing it, and I hope it helped you in some way.
