The Virgo Musician: How Your Zodiac Sign Affects Your Music

IT’S VIRGO SEASON – MY SEASON! All my Virgos, join me as we twirl around in falling leaves while it’s still relatively warm out. This post is likely to be biased, but I promise to be as fair as possible. I’m well aware of my (many) flaws and will definitely include those, but I’m also aware of the fact that some (or most) of this is my personality, and not my birthday.
On that note, I need to state that this post is for entertainment purposes only. This is not a prediction of the future, nor is it legal or career advice. It’s just a fun look at zodiac signs and how (if at all) they impact our artwork. You might also have a different moon, Venus, or other sign, which you can find out here. Some people don’t believe in any of this, and some people are super into it. If you’re like me, you probably fall somewhere in the middle. It’s fun and interesting, but we don’t plan our lives around it. Let’s have some fun and explore Virgos!
I also have a post about every Virgo musician here if you want to check it out!

Virgo Musicians, Singers and Songwriters
Virgos are earth signs, and as such are known to be very down-to-earth (pun intended). Modest to a fault, Virgos will downplay their strengths to such an extent that no one knows about them at all. They are seen as pure and innocent, but they expect the best of themselves and are highly self-disciplined.
In addition to being hard on themselves, they can also be hard on everyone around them. Virgos are an exacting bunch, and they demand the best from their team. Ask my partner, who has to sit with me while I review literally every second of our songs with a notepad, taking painstaking notes on the mistakes both of us made. It helps us improve, but it understandably drives him crazy as well.

Writing is one of Virgo’s key talents, but they are also their own worst enemy. They will obsess over each word in their lyrics. A thesaurus and rhyme dictionary is always on hand to make sure there isn’t a better option available. The lyrics will most likely be introspective, as Virgo spends a lot of time in their own head. The challenge here is to not second-guess the emotion right out of your song. Generally, your first thought is emotion-driven, and too many edits can suck the life out of it. It’s a delicate balance and Virgo’s lyrics can be far too analytical to be relatable.
As tough as they are on themselves, Virgo can be an exhausting co-writer. They will constantly push others to do better, which can be great, but can also lead to resentment and fights. They can also completely “check out” if they feel overwhelmed, and it will be difficult to get their head back in the game. If you feel like your co-writer isn’t pulling their weight, here are some tips!
If your co-writer is a Virgo, try to remember that they simply want the best for the group. They may drive you a little nuts, but think of them as a personal trainer who is pushing your limit for good reason. That said, feel free to call them on it if it gets to be too much. I often rely on my friends to let me know when my encouragement feels overbearing. My goal is simply to help, but I know it can be too much! If you’re dealing with difficult co-writers of any kind, I have tips on how to handle it here.
On the positive side, you can count on your Virgo co-writer to keep the schedule, keep people on task, and provide all the support and encouragement you could ever need! You’ll also never find a harder worker. So, while it may be taxing, I wouldn’t count out a Virgo as a partner (although, as I’ve said, I’m very heavily biased).
The Singing Virgo

As a perfectionist, Virgo needs a vocal coach to make sure that they have correct singing technique. I suffered a vocal injury when working on my first album, because I insisted on doing each take a million times until it was perfect. If I had used correct technique, this might not have been an issue, but sadly I didn’t and suffered for it. If you’re going to do 300 takes, Virgo, make sure you’re doing them correctly.
Virgos are modest and don’t crave the spotlight. However, if they end up there, they’ll do their absolute best to be deserving of it. Interactions with fans will be typically straightforward, as Virgos don’t know what to do with compliments. They aren’t likely to crave praise, but if they read a critique or criticism, they’ll spend weeks analyzing it and deciding how to improve.
Although I’m a session singer, I consider myself more of a writer. I can’t think of a more typical Virgo thing, haha. However, the next section is about playing instruments, and absolutely none of this applies to me. So, you know…take it all with a grain of salt.

Because Virgos are so hard working, playing instruments should come easily. They will do whatever it takes to become not only proficient, but excellent. I think this is maybe what tripped me up. I wasn’t playing like Stevie Ray Vaughan within 2 weeks of learning guitar, so I decided I should just stop. If you have a desire to do it, don’t be like me!
One thing Virgos really need is to allow themselves to have fun. Not EVERYTHING needs to be a chore (although we can certainly make it one). If you find yourself treating instrument lessons like a task and not like a creative endeavor, see how you can adjust that. That is really my only advice for you as I am too close to this one, sorry!
The Virgo Musician in the Music Business
Analyzing contracts and negotiations is where Virgo really shines. If you don’t make it as a famous musician, you could really do well in the business side of things (or, you know, start a music blog). Virgos are all about fairness as well, so bandmates are comfortable having you take the lead and negotiate on their behalf.
Because Virgo is so secretive and closed-off, they might get a reputation for being a diva. Being a perfectionist certainly doesn’t help in this area. While “diva” might be a bit of a stretch, you’ll want to use your Virgo powers wisely and make sure you aren’t driving people away.
I hope this gives you an overview of life as a Virgo musician! Feel free to pin the top image so you can read this post again when you need it. I’ve also made this infographic you can use for bullet points:
