Top Free and Paid Ways to Learn Piano

How to Learn Piano

My post today is a guest post by Furqan Ahmed. I’d like to thank him for providing this awesome resource to learn to play the piano! If you’re looking for ways to learn how to play piano, check out his tips below! I don’t normally write about piano (here is another guest post) but I’m always happy to have others chime in!

Top Free and Paid Ways to Learn Piano

Learning piano is not as difficult as people think considering the ways available in this digital world. It is just that you should choose the right way to learn the piano that is convenient and easy for you. People learn piano in different ways. You have the option to learn piano from the comfort of your home on a cozy couch, or you can also go out and take piano lessons. I will share some free and paid ways by which you can learn the piano and then the decision is yours to decide which is the right way or you to kickstart your piano learning journey.

Paid Ways of Learning Piano

1). Hire a Piano Teacher

This can be costly, but you can always hire a piano teacher. The instructor can visit your house to teach you. You can plan a learning schedule with your instructor. Now the question arises, how can you find one? Well, you can Google, “Piano instructor or teacher in my locality” and you will have some options to select from. You can then contact them and take further details. A more experienced instructor will also charge more.

2). Take an Online Piano Course

This is a good way of learning the instrument from your home. There are piano courses available online which are beginner-friendly and even adult beginners can learn piano with the help of these courses. One of them is Piano For All by Piano expert Robin Hall. You can check the Piano For All review. Moreover, if you search “best online piano learning courses,” you will get the list and can choose one which you like.

3). Take Piano Classes

If you are willing to go out to learn the piano, you can join a piano school in your locality. The advantage of learning this way is that you can also interact with other students and also share and take help from other people who are trying to learn piano with you. After the class, you can sit back and do some practice sessions together. Learning together is always a good strategy and produces fast results.

4). Buy Piano Books

As they say, books are human’s best friend, you can visit a book store and grab some piano learning books from there. On the other hand, you can also order online. One of them is Piano Book for Adult Beginners by Damon Ferrante. Similarly, you can also check other books on Amazon.

Now here are the free ways to learn this instrument. I know everyone loves free ways.

Free Ways of Learning Piano

1). Piano Apps

These days everyone has a smartphone and there are many free piano learning apps. Some apps also offer a virtual piano. So, if you don’t have a piano, practicing on a virtual piano can be a good option for you. “Simply Piano” is a free online piano app that you can download and get started.

2). Piano Learning Videos

YouTube has plenty of content available on almost every topic. If you are a beginner, you can find good piano learning videos. You may have to search first and get to videos that you think are beginner-friendly and can teach you step-by-step, because every video available on piano learning may not be beneficial for you and has its own positives and negatives.

3). Learn Yourself by Ear

This technique is used by many beginners to learn piano yourself. What you do is first listen to the tunes and sounds and then try to play them on the piano by making combinations of chords. Practicing will make you more perfect with time. Some piano courses also focus on learning by this method.

Conclusion

I hope I have given you an overview of all the ways. Every person has his own priorities like some are willing to spend money on learning piano and some are looking for free training. Therefore, it depends on you whichever way is convenient for you. The ultimate goal is to learn the piano and you should stay focused on your learning.

It really helped when you said that learning the piano isn’t as difficult as I imagine it to be. I’ve been watching a lot of videos about classical instruments and I feel like I need to learn how to play the piano. I hope that I can find a good school or teacher that can help me create my own custom arrangements in the future.
